FAMILY TRIP TO KOREA DAY 8 - PART 2

3/4/2015

After arrival back to Seoul, it was time to pay a courtesy call to Mr and Mrs Lee's home.

The enclosed balcony outside the living room...
Most of the Koreans stay in high rise condominiums and most of these have an enclosed balcony, maybe its a barrier from noise or environment pollution or for the safety of the children. I like the idea, you can get the view and sun minus the dust! And talking about  view, they have the most wonderful view outside the living room... in summer the green mountains and in winter they become  snow-covered mountains....no wonder both of them looked so happy and young ...

one end of the balcony served as drying area and also for fermenting their own miso paste
She gave me a whole biscuit container of miso paste...yummy..

the other end is near the kitchen and this is where she kept her kimchi... inside this special kimchi fridge.
Most Koreans have this special  fridge for storing their kimchi at the right temperature.
By the way you can see the water bottles... the Korean preferred to drink these bottled water instead of tap water... and some of these bottled water are from Jeju Island....pure mineral water.. "youthful fountain".

Frozen persimmons.... just like eating sorbet... so sweet and so cold!

Sunset along the way to our farewell dinner hosted by them.....

very popular Korean Buffet ....

very zen interior of the restaurant...

large dining hall and equally huge variety of the buffet spread....

choices of  rice available and you can pick your own condiments to make your own Bibimbap!

Yes, my choice... soft rice steam with lotus roots, gingko nuts, wolfberries and pine nuts .... yum.

Black sesame seed rice porridge .... soupy but very delightful with the various hot spicy grilled meats

I think this is a wonderful idea to serve with this type of plate..... no wastage of food...

some of the foods sampled.... all of them very tasty and delicious...

Mixing our own bibimbap....so enjoyable...

It is not their normal habit to drink tea during the meal.  However, most of them could like a cup of coffee after their meal.  Coffee Vending maching can be found on most premises in the restaurant.

Our happy family portrait

After dinner Mr. Lee drove us to see the Rainbow Bridge.
There were some filming going on but of course, we won't  recognised the actor/actress of course while the spectators were gaping at them.  Pity them working on such a cold windy night...

It seemed that every night there is a sort of musical fountain display here during the summer.
Again a wonderful day of our trip....

  1. You have an interesting blog post which I love to read about your visit to Korea. I have plans to visit Seoul very soon when MERS have disappeared completely to catch up with all my Korean friends who stayed together in US. They have very unique and weird culture that took me a very long time to understand its beauty side.
