A fruit basket to take to the bride's house...

Time to get dress.... long long time ago it was nappies that I put on him! 

Let's get this perfect....

As a mother-in-law, the "law" says I am not allow to go with him to fetch the bride.  So these  photos were taken by Esther over at the hotel where the bride was staying with her parents.   Jeremy was very adamant that there be no teasing/playing him.      But in the end the girls did made him sing a love song to Eunice before they allowed him into the bride's room!.

Its not all receiving only, but it is also more blessed to give... now its their turn to accept tea from the younger ones.

PRE-WEDDING JAPANESE DINNER

It seems the norm  to  invite family member/friends for a last bachelor's night before you are being "tie down".  Normally for the buddhist, there would be prayers and the "hair-combing" rites for the bride/bridegroom- ie where the parents would offer blessings for the bride/groom. First comb for a long lasting relationship from beginning to end; second comb till eyebrows and hair grow white; third comb for new generations to come. After that the bride/groom could eat a bowl of the Tong Yuan (glutinous rice dumplings) for a sweet life together.  My late mother used to say that unless the bride/groom goes through this rites, they will still be a "child" (not an adult) in the eyes of the gods!. 

However instead of having a buffet at home (too messy and too lazy for cleaning up later), we went for a Japanese buffet dinner at the Sunway Legend Hotel.        

Thought I could show the night view of the city's skyline to my "chan-kar"  ie Eunice parents.   I especially liked the view of KLCC from the Gen @ 10 Japanese restaurant at the Sunway Legend Hotel.   But this time due to the huge number of us, we were given a room by ourselves. It has it's advantages (more privacy) and disadvantages (got to get up and down from the seat to get our food!). 

So we were seated tatami style... a bit difficult for my poor knees getting up and down for food and as you can imagine how many times, I have to do that! D:

The buffet spread was good here... fresh sashimi, numerous types of sushi, teppanyaki, shabu-shabu..well you name it.  Service was efficient too and the staff friendly. 

Happy Birthday Esther 

We always tend to forget Esther's birthday which falls on the 27/12 because of Christmas celebrations. This time Sarah took the initiative and bought her these cakes (all the cakes for the forgotten birthdays!) and lead us to sing the birthday song for her!

ENGLISH TEA WITH A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

English Tea @ Delicious, St. Mary's Residence

"I serve" - this the motto of my school- St. Mary Secondary School.

This was a missionary school  and the earlier headmistresses were mainly from United Kingdom. The school celebrated its 100 years anniversary last year - so what a pity when the building were torn down to make way for this new block of condominiums now known as St Mary Residence. Sometimes I felt that the old heritage buildings in the country are not being well preserved and protected! There is so much history and architecture in these buildings.

My 3 sisters and me  have studied here and also one of  my nieces too!

How many footprints have I and my sisters left along these corridors. The classrooms were on the right.  We could often hear the teacher screaming next door during classes! The balcony overlooked to a large field where we had our sports annually.  Sometimes our attention did wandered as we gazed at the trees swaying lazily outside and the teacher was being boring!

The school concerts and the weekly assemblies were held at The Assembly Hall.   I can remembered the stage plays that I had participated - Lochinvar, no not as young Lochinvar, but one of the Scottish dancers only and also Tom Sayer and Huckleberry Finn- again one of the young scoundrels! That's why my dreams of being a performer never take off...hahahah.

But what I remember most were those early morning chapel service lead by the headmistress in the hall. Quiet, peaceful and comforting- always a good way to start the day.      

Well, so much for the old school, the new school is now located in Selayang and there are more photos over there, should you be interested to know more about the school.

You can have either coffee or tea for the English tea set.  My cuppa of tea -Earl Grey Tea.

The tea set is for 2 persons and there are set items except the choice of the cake.   We had ordered 2 sets and choosed a Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting- cake was a bit dry.

Scones, clotted cream, jam, chocolate sauce and chocolate truffles (very sweet)

The other cake was the Carrot cake.

Duck confit tart - delicious.

My nieces and sister-in-law came later and they ordered a cream cheese cake- very creamy.

We had a very enjoyable time travelling down memory lane with our nieces. It was so relaxing to sit back and to take a breather from coming events.

Eunice's parents flew in from Korea on the 26/12/2013 for the wedding. This was their first visit to Malaysia and they had enjoyed the holiday.  As both of them could not converse in other languages we had to rely on Eunice as our translator.

We had a welcome dinner at the Cheers Palace.

The restaurant is already featuring the Chinese New Year Menu. So we ordered a Salmon and Pear Yee Seng as the appetiser.  

Salmon and Pear Yee Seng to celebrate the coming Chinese New Year and for blessing of abundance for the coming year.

I did not take photos of the rest of the foods that we ordered, among of which were Peking Duck -cooked 3 ways - the crispy skin served with thin crepes; the duck meat cooked with Noddles and the bones boiled with preserved mustard (kiam chye) and taufoo for a delicious soup (good for reducing the "heatiness" of the body); Kailan cooked 2 ways - the leaves of kale was deep fried till crispy (but it did tasted slightly bitter) while the stems were blanched; Steamed Pak So Kon (fish) and their speciality Pork Ribs- so tender and moist.  

I also ordered the local dish of  4 "heavenly kings" - long beans, petai (stinky beans); brinjals and angle beans cooked in belachan  sauce.   Eunice's parents enjoyed this spicy dish except the stinky beans!

  

I am truly amaze and surprise by the gifts/presents that they bought along with them.  A basket full of these rice crackers and cookies.  The basket was beautifully wrapped with a pink silky cloth.

Her homemade fig jam-- ... this is reallllly very very delicious- not too sweet and plus a hugh bottle of home-brew wine from a relative.

It seems that this is a traditional gift to give for a daughter's wedding- a set of quilted bed sheets set!.
It had me wondering - her luggage must be overweight!

Finally it was so thoughtful of her to bring along  a present for each of my siblings - a whole box - all immaculately wrapped! It is Korean ginseng treats.
