my home-cooked dinner for the last day of CNY.
I know it was the 16th day instead of Chap Goh Mei. Besides its high time to finish the foodstuff which I have stocked up for the CNY in the fridge.
Stuffed Fish Maw with fish paste.
Fish Maw got to be blanched with boiling water to get rid of the oily smell. I brought 2 packets, flat pieces and the tube forms. Flat ones were cut and throw into the soup before serving. These tube ones were stuffed with fish paste and steamed and sliced and serve with the soup individually.
CLASSIC VEGETARIAN DISH-
GRILLED TOFU WITH SATAY SAUCE..
the peanuts seemed to have absorbed the tamarind water in the sauce and have thicken the sauce by the time we sat down for dinner. I have fried the peanuts and grind them myself plus all fresh ingredients for the chilli paste too. I used these fried tofu, cut diagonally and brushed them with a bit of oil before grilling.
The rest of the ingredients for the Fish Maw Soup, a can of Razor Clams given by friend and Hakka style fish balls made with fish paste (brought from market), minced pork, minced garlic and shallots.
My neighbour gave me a waxed duck thigh which she brought from her Hongkong trip before CNY. It was meaty but not so salty. This year I did not buy any imported Chinese sausage but got these locally made ones from my regular roasted pork seller in the market and they are not oily and to our liking.
WAXED MEAT RICE... my must-have for Chinese New Year..
It had been a memorable happy Chinese New Year, but then every CNY is good with family around us.
