MELBOURNE TRIP 2016 # 3 PART 2 DFO SHOPPING

7/3/2016
Monday

Issara Thai Cuisine @ No. 422 Little Collins Street.
After walking through all the fantastic exhibits, its lunchtime.  We decided to pay a visit to May's friend's
eatery at Little Collins Street.  This eatery is located in a foodcourt of a commercial building  and serve good value set Thai-style meals for lunch.   Most of  food are freshly cooked on the spot and they use plenty of fresh ingredients in their curries and vegetables dishes and fried noddles too.

Besides catering for takeaways, there are a few tables for dine-in around the foodcourt.

Our happy meal - fried eggplant with minced meat, basil chicken,  green curry chicken, pad Thai, fried rice and mixed veggies- the portions were generous and the service was friendly and quick.  My brother joined us for lunch as he was working nearby.

Our next itinerary for the day was some shopping at the DFO Mall at Southgate. So we decided to walk off our heavy lunch and it was truly a very long walk indeed ....

passed by the Manchester Unity Building.

Went inside the foyer to check out its wooden elevator

and the lifts

There is guided tour to the top (have to book in advance) and  this will definitely be on my itinerary on my next trip to Melbourne.

also checked out the Dr. Seuss Art Gallery at Block Arcade.

Just love these comical and fabulous artworks

The Cat in the Hat and many more...

Little Audrey - the Skipping Girl - told you she is a icon
Remember the video which we took of the Skipping Girl after our dinner at Woodstock Pizza.

the imported mosaic tiles from Italy -  ground floor of the Block Arcade

the glass ceiling and intricate iron designs.

another beautiful French Renaissance building

the octagon central dome of the Block Arcade..

some of the sculptures around the concourse...

Next trip, I  must come for a guided tour of the Block Arcade.
We stopped  by the Quist Coffee shop and bought  some coffee to take home.

Quist Coffee shop

The Three Businessmen Who Brought Their Own Lunch

These are life-sized sculptures of  Melbourne's three pioneers: Batman, Swanston and Hoddle-
looking confused and shocked by the way the city has grown since they founded it!

There was a tourist guide nearby and she kindly tell us the history of these 3 men.  John Batman negotiated a treaty with the aboriginal people and established the settlement on the Yarra River where Melbourne City is now; Charles Swanston was a banker and he helped acquire the Port Phillip District while Robert Hoddle was a surveyor of the Port Phillip District.

Crepes from Paris in Melbourne....

La Petite Creperie at Swanston Street.  This stall is actually a former stainless steel newspaper stand. Of course, we have to buy one and  my niece and me shared  a Nutella and Banana Crepe- our dessert.

The Princes Bridge....going towards Southgate

"Ophelia"  - art along the Yarra Promenade

The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival near the Red Stair Amphitheatre

"The Guardians"

Finally, we got to rest our legs in the Crown Casino building before continuing to walk....

We have a wonderful time shopping at the DFO.  Bought some yoga wear, sportswear at Lorna Jane; shoes from Vans and slippers and T-shirts from Cotton-On.  We left the city before the office hours were over to avoid the traffic jam.
